We drove through 3 sections without seeing ONE animal (not a single one). The deeper we drove into the tour, the more scarce the animals got. In the beginning of the ride, the animals are plenty (most all the same animals in the deer family but still plenty). It just seems to me that it should be a set fee PER car NOT a fee for each person in a car I found it kind of odd that we had to pay INDIVDUALLY but could only get ONE book PER car. My son and his 2 kids) I was told it was one per car or $3.50 for an extra. When I ask for another booklet since it was 5 in the car (2 different families should have gotten 2 books, my husband and I. Our car was about $125 total for the experience. My grand kids are 6 and 7 and we had to pay $19 for them each. $29 for each adult and $19 for each CHILD. We left feeling like we paid well over a $100 just to feed goats. I’d suggest going elsewhere if you want more interaction with the animals. For the admission price, the wildlife ranch was a bit overrated & disappointing. We did see giraffes & goats & monkeys in viewing/petting area. Also, workers drove around in ATV’s with food & animals would run off following them. We saw most other animals from afar as they had hay and food in feed troughs and didn’t want the food we were offering.
We fed goats, deer, an emu, & a couple of ostriches. There were a couple of areas where we saw no animals. However, we were quite disappointed with the few number of animals we were able to feed and even saw while driving through the ranch. The landscape and facilities were nice & well maintained. Having been to other wildlife places in Louisiana, Georgia, & Tennessee, we purchased 9 bags of food & received 1 complimentary bag of food. The admission was $24.50 per person & a small bag of food was $2.50. My husband, son, girlfriend, & myself visited the wildlife ranch while touring in San Antonio. If you want something better, be responsible by planning better and expect to pay more. Tl dr - if you want to pay a zoo price, go to a zoo. I have a strong inclination to believe these are the kinds of people leaving “too expensive” and “didn’t even see any animals” reviews.
I saw people letting their children smack the animals that came up to their cars, scream at them, and throw the food at their faces without reprimanding them. It’s irresponsible for people to complain when 1) you can’t go over 5mph because animals cross the road and going faster frightens them 2) they’re accredited by multiple conservation agencies and are literally helping bring species back from the brink of extinction 3) the San Antonio Zoo is notorious for poor animal welfare so those who use it as a basis for comparison blatantly do not know what they’re talking about. It’s like complaining about the wait times for rides at Six Flags when you showed up at 2pm.
You have to make an effort to work with their natural behavior if you want a good experience.

These animals are not in stuffed into small exhibits so people can see them at all times like they are in a zoo, they’re free to roam. We arrived on a hot, cloudy Sunday at 10am. It’s $4.99 for a bag of food, my husband and I both got one and it lasted us two go-arounds with almost every species coming up to us. Go in the morning when the animals are being fed or on a cloudy day when the heat doesn’t force them under the trees, and then eat/shop during the hot parts of the day. NBWR cares for and fosters the natural breeding of critically endangered and extinct in the wild species! That is a HUGE deal! How many places can you have an ostrich peek in your window or a wildebeest come right up to your car? I’m sure those who arrived and were frustrated didn’t take basic animal behavior into account. I guess that's a regular occurrence, since they sell "I survived the ostrich" flags at the gift shop.I can’t believe people are calling this place overpriced! They must be spoiled rotten. The bird pecked at the half-open car window, which elicited an ear-crunching scream from my wife. Just one word of warning - beware of the mean ostrich. I thought we can visit natural bridge caverns the same day, but ended up spending about 5 hours at this place. They also offer some sort of animal guide for $3. I think you can get $2 off per person on this particular attraction.

Make sure to go to and download (print) some coupons. You can't really go faster than 5 mph, as there are a lot of animals blocking the way. Sure enough, at the first sign of a wild animal, the kids and the wife started feeding them from their hands. As you are buying the tickets, they warned us to NEVER feed the animals from your hand. We had a blast! The kids had a great time feeding the animals. I went with my wife and 2 kids (ages 10 and 7).
